Habitat – The Physics-Driven Orbital Strategy Game
4gency is coming to PAX East with a playable demo for their upcoming game, Habitat .
. Set to be released this Christmas for PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One, Habitat promises to bring a unique game concept designed to combine zero-gravity physics with elements from real time strategy games in a way that hasn’t been done before.
The premise of the game starts with a post-apocalyptic and unlivable Earth. The only livable areas remaining are the space stations orbiting the planet, built and upgraded using the tons of space junk around it. Players use engineers to weld these giant pieces of junk together to form a unique space station that earthlings can call their new home. Anything can be attached to these stations, including the remains of a subway car, what looks like the disembodied head of the Statue of Liberty (how did that get there?), and rockets to allow your station to move around and avoid the many hazards that float aimlessly through space.

Separate factions of humans who have also decided to live in space react aggressively and consistently attempt to destroy your habitat. Players must avoid them or fight them off, but instead of using conventional weapons, players must use the environment around them and the zero-gravity physics in remarkably creative ways. Attaching a rocket to an asteroid and sending it hurtling towards the enemy station will cause massive damage, and force that station to spiral out of control with momentum.
4gency is currently running a Kickstartercampaign for Habitat that will end on May 2, 2014, and they will allow gamers to play an early demo at booth #656.
