Indie Intermission – ‘Mind The Gap’ A Public Service Announcement Turned Into A Game
With Ludum Dare ending yesterday expect to see a top five next week so until then expect some other titles from the event, plus any great random games I can find.
Today’s game is Mind The Gap which ended up taking seventh place in the competition, just breaking into the top ten. Developed by shiprib Mind The Gap is a rather genius minimalistic game that encapsulates the building of an underground network so well it is a joy to look at and play.
For anyone who does not know “mind the gap” is a phrase from the London Underground system which has gained cult popularity over the past years making it one of the most recognisable phrases in the UK.
In Mind The Gap you must construct subway lines that run between different shaped stations which creates a small puzzle element as you must move the corresponding people to their shaped station in order to clear them from the map.
Although in its current state Mind The Gap lacks difficulty as I have still not found a way to lose the game, even when it is running in the background especially after a certain point.
Average play time – 5 minutes
Mind The Gap is a fantastically simple concept that offers a great deal of interesting gameplay, even if the game lacks any form of difficulty. With some more time in development Mind The Gap could be a great little mobile game.
You can play the post Ludum Dare version online now. If you would like to read more information on the game check out the Ludum Dare page.
