Steredenn – An Explosive Shmup With Unusual Weaponry

Shmups are a time-tested and well-worn genre of the video game world, and while it’s tough to make something entirely new, it’s hard to argue with the catharsis of shooting forever…or at least until defeated.

Steredenn, the new game from Pixelnest Studio, is a space-themed, side-scrolling shoot ’em up that puts players in control of a surprisingly powerful little ship. The game tasks players with blowing up progressively more difficult enemies with a variety of weapons on both sides of the chaotic fight. The game boasts “insane boss battles” which can be glimpsed in the above trailer.

In addition, the game claims to have rogue-like elements, which appear to be permanent upgrades to keep progression achievable. The weapons are widely varied, with everything from energy boomerangs to giant metal jaws that eat any ships that happen to be in range.

Steredenn launches properly on October 1st for $12.99 USD (with a temporary 15% discount) through Steam, but it is available now through Steam’s Early Access program at the lower cost of $8.99. The game is currently available only for Windows and Mac PCs. Those interested in buying Steredenn or learning more about it can check out both the game’s Steam pageand itch.io.
