Lettercraft is a Linguist’s Delight
The developer of mathematical puzzle app GREG , Marco Toretta, has teamed up with Stefano Figurelli to give us Lettercraft , a word-making game now available on iOS devices.
Lettercraft offers players a more linguistically focused experience by challenging them to generate words with a minimum of three letters as quickly as possible. Lettercraft was originally released on March 26 and has featured in the App Store’s Best New Games section in 110 countries. The game uses a colorful 5×5 word grid composed of randomly scattered letters, and employs the same ‘temperature system’ of GREG which sees letters gradually heating up before the round comes to a close.
Lettercraft promises a fun, engaging and innovative experience that is split into Adventure mode and Suvival mode. Both modes can be played on an easy, normal, or hard difficulty setting, and Adventure mode currently features 70 different levels for players to work through. Words are constructed through a simple tap and swipe mechanic, which involves swiping your finger anywhere across the screen once you have spelled out your word of choice.
At the end of each round, you receive a gameplay breakdown which gives an overall score, lists the number of words discovered (including incorrect words), and adjudicates you on your efforts via a three-star rating system. Word enthusiasts worldwide are invited to test out their skills today by downloading Lettercraft from the App Store absolutely free. Lettercraft does come with in-app purchases and offers the first five levels free, after which you can purchase the full version. For more information on Lettercraft , make sure to follow the game on Twitter.
At the time of this article, the longest word that has been constructed in Lettercraft is 17 letters long. Do you have the linguistic prowess to top that number? Let us know in the comments! (Note: Unfortunately, ‘ supercalifragilisticexpialidocious‘ does not fit into the 5×5 word grid.)
