‘Hiragana Pixel Party’ Makes Learning To Write Japanese Fun
Speaking from experience, learning to speak Japanese, while rewarding, is no cake walk.
Speaking from experience, learning to speak Japanese, while rewarding, is no cake walk. Just like any other language, it takes patience and perseverance to make it through the hours upon hours of studying and memorization, you need to become proficient. One of the most daunting (and monotonous) tasks on the road to learning Japanese is to become familiarized with the hiragana and katakana writing systems. Fortunately, there are various apps on the iOS which attempt to streamline this process and make it fun. The newest is Hiragana Pixel Party by Springloaded .
Hiragana Pixel Party is a rhythm game featuring colorful 8-bit graphics and chip tunes. There are five different game modes to help players master the written Japanese language including English to Japanese translation and hiragana to katakana transcription. All told, there are almost 400 stages in the game spread out over six different worlds. Currently, Hiragana Pixel Party only teaches players to pronounce individual characters and how to string them together to pronounce words. In the future, however, they say that they plan to include reading and spelling stages to “push the fun even further”.
Hiragana Pixel Party won’t have you speaking like Tokugawa Ieyasu, but if you’ve always wanted to learn the language, this app is a great place to start. S pringloaded doesn’t have a website, but you can find out more about Hiragana Pixel Party at the App Store, universal for iPhone and iPad for free.
