HoloLens battery will last for 5.5 hours, 2.5 with 'intensive use'

Microsoft's mixed-reality HoloLens headset will have an average battery life of 5.5 hours per charge, and will feature a field of view comparable to viewing a 15-inch monitor from around 2 ft away.

That's according to Microsoft tech evangelist Bruce Harris, who dropped the new details during his talk at an event in Tel Aviv.

Harris added that battery life would likely fall to 2.5 hours with intensive use, before mentioning that improving manufacturing costs should eventually result in a battery with greater legs.

The HoloLens itself, not to be confused with virtual reality headsets such as the Oculus Rift, allows wearers to interact with holograms and has been pegged as a gesture-based control solution.

A number of demonstrations have shed some light on the device's other capabilities, such as the ability to stream and play Xbox One games via a holographic screen.

Developers will be able to get their hands on the HoloLens when the $3000 Development Editionrolls out later this year.
