Indie Developer Coalition Organizing Massive Sale
One of the hardest parts of being an indie artist of any kind, whether a game developer, novelist or otherwise, is getting your product out there, which is no small feat when distributors take control of pricing your work so they can make a profit (we’re looking at you Kindle Direct Publishing).
One of the hardest parts of being an indie artist of any kind, whether a game developer, novelist or otherwise, is getting your product out there, which is no small feat when distributors take control of pricing your work so they can make a profit (we’re looking at you Kindle Direct Publishing). This is the inspiration for a massive indie game sale at the end of this month being organized by Because We May , a coalition of indie game developers.
From May 24 to June 1, hundreds of games (239 to be exact) across various platforms and distributors including Apple’s Appstore, Steam and Google Play will be deeply discounted in order to promote developer-controlled pricing of indie games and “celebrate online stores that give us control over pricing”. Titles participating in the sale range from the popular like Fieldrunners and World of Goo HD to the less well-known such as Lilt line and Gravonaut .
Indie developers looking to get in on the sale and promote their work can register to discount their games on the Because We May homepageuntil May 22.
According to the website: “We believe that developers should have the freedom to price their games how they like , without interference from the online stores that sell the games. Why? Because it allows us to promote our games more freely, as we are doing here! We rely on the ability to promote our games for our livelihood and control over pricing is an important tool for this purpose.”
The full list of games currently taking part in the sale can be found on the Because We May website.
