Nap Later, Sleepers Will Soon Awaken
Imagine awakening on a ship deep in space.
Imagine awakening on a ship deep in space. You don’t know how long you’ve been asleep. In fact, you don’t even know who you are. Or how you got on that ship. And you definitely don’t know what’s happened to everybody else on the ship… nor are you entirely sure you want to know.
Welcome to the terrifying reality of, an upcoming horror survival game. The player character has no memory or sense of self upon waking from a lengthy slumber. What’s clear, though, is they managed to sleep right through a disaster which has left the spacecraft pretty much unmanned. Most of the crew is dead, and the ones who aren’t have lost their minds. But how did this all come to pass? And more importantly, how can the protagonist survive long enough to find a way to escape?
Set in a first-person point of view, the intended thriller invites players to explore a claustrophobic setting and interact with objects they find along the way. There are weapons and ammunition to be collected, but the ammo in particular is very limited, and the enemies on the ship are both legion and powerful; to put it bluntly, they outnumber the ammo, which means that even the most skillful shooter cannot hope to destroy them all. It’s better to avoid engaging them whenever possible, to make the ammo last as long as it can. Worse, the enemies are able to react to their surroundings, and will investigate noises and disturbances, making stealth the highest priority. The storyline aims to keep players guessing, since nothing is what it seems and there is no one to call for help during the search for answers.
Sleepers is a product of Camel 101 LLC, an indie developer which has branched off of Camel Entertainment. They specialize in PC and Mac games ranging from casual puzzlers to war strategy simulators. The devs note that they are great fans of the horror genre, and “drew inspiration from several cult classics like System Shock, Dead Space, Resident Evil , and the Aliens universe.” They promise that the futuristic survival adventure includes “countless horrors, both physical and psychological.”
Set for release in Q2 2016, Sleepers is anticipated to fully support Oculus Rift. The ESRB and final price have yet to be announced, but interested survivalists can watch for details to unfold on the Camel 101 Facebook, Twitter, and YouTubeaccounts.
