One of the best things about revamping a classic title is that even today’s mobile devices are more powerful than many of the home consoles of yesteryear, allowing for a gaming experience that is both portable and better than the original.  In this tradition, the folks at Stainless Games have announced their plans to release the cult vehicular combat hit Carmageddon on the iOS and Android later this summer.

Inspired by the 1975 film Death Race 2000, Carmageddon drops players in the driver’s seat of a race car to face off against a field of computer-controlled opponents in a series of races.  The goal is simple: win.  Whether you do this by crossing the finish line, wrecking your opponents’ cars or running down all of the level’s pedestrians, you’re sure to be in for a violent time.

The mobile versions of the game will feature enhanced graphics and simplified controls, as well as Game Center integration on Apple devices and the ability to save replays and upload them to the internet.

To show their thanks for the widespread support of both their Carmageddon port and their upcoming title Carmageddon: Reincarnation , Stainless Games has also announced that the iOS version of the game will be available in its entirety for free on the App Store for the first 24 hours following its release.

You can find out more about Carmageddon and Stainless Games on their official website.
