The 'world's largest game collection' on the auction block
Looking for a huge collection of games -- that includes rarities for obscure systems like the Fujitsu FM Towns and Bandai Pippin, as well as smash hits like the Super Nintendo and Xbox 360?
Online shop Good Deal Games owner Michael Thomasson is auctioning offthis huge collection on online site GameGavel. As of writing, the current bid is $50,000 with the (unknown) reserve not yet met.
The collection has been certified as "The World's Largest Video Game Collection" by The Guinness Book of World Records, and includes over 11,000 games. The Good Deal Games site's complete list includes picture after pictureof rarities, in their original packaging.
If you bid, you'll have access to curiosities ranging from The Best of Baby Songs for the Philips CD-i, or the notorious 3DO game Plumbers Don't Wear Ties , and the Waterworld adaptation for Nintendo's failed Virtual Boy, to several games for the obscure Gizmondo portable, best known for its exec's high-profile car accidentthan the platform itself.
The auction comes withthe Guinness certificate as well as the games.
The last time a massive collection of games ended up on auction, the The International Center for the History of Electronic Games was able to capture it, adding almost 7,000 Japanese games to its collection. We can only hope this collection ends up in a similar venue.
