Chaos Reborn Materializes as an Early Access Game on Steam

Chaos Reborn is a title more fitting than it seems at first look.

is a title more fitting than it seems at first look. A successful Kickstarter campaign has the creator of XCOM , Julian Gollop, reviving his creation from 1985, originally titled Chaos : Battle of Wizards . Now, Chaos Reborn enters Steam as an Early Access game.

Between two to four wizards face off in an arena in player-versus-player combat. In their arsenal lies a spicy variety of spells, from summoning Gooey Blobs and Shadow Wood to effective, offensive magic. The players use a card-like system during relatively fast-paced combat placed on a hexagonal map. The spell casting system is governed by the energies of Law and Chaos, which give percentage chances of successful uses. If the current aligned leans to Chaos, Chaos spells are easier to cast, and in turn, using such magic shifts the status more. Furthermore, each wizard can “bluff” a creature spell by summoning an illusion instead of the real thing — which acts just like the real deal, except it can be dealt with using an easy “Disbelief” spell.

Other than multiplayer combat, the developers list several more features coming for Chaos Reborn : Deep single player and co-op modes with randomly generated lands, Orders which would function like guilds, item trading, and more offline options like battling against AI. Snapshot Games plans on two updates each month leading up to a planned full release in the summer of 2015.

If you’re ready to sling spells in tactical combat, Chaos Reborn is available on Steamnow. Also check out the game’s websitefor more detailed information.
