Omnis Settles into Kickstarter
Omnis is a JRPG being developed for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs by Elyn Studios, and is now seeking funding through Kickstarter to help the team finish development.
The game puts players in control of a pair of refugees, Orphan and Skyler, who after a decade of travel have finally reached Verdamm City, the capital of the world. Intent on making a new life there, the pair is disappointed to find that the city they’d heard of as a Utopia is falling apart and slowly dying. Soon though, they are recruited into the “Operatives” group, a network of killers and mercenaries which sends Orphan and Skyler out to dispatch a strange, seemingly omnipresent creature.
Omnis is pitched as a game whose combat is inspired by JRPG titles, with a story that draws on New-Weirdthemes. In practice, what this means is that the game looks like Final Fantasy , but walks and talks like an odd blend of fantasy and sci-fi.
Omnis has just launched its campaign, and is seeking £18,400 in funding (~$28-29,000 USD). Rewards start as low as £1 for recognition in the game’s credits, £5 for the game itself, all the way up to £999 for getting a signed script and custom merchant in the game (among other things). Omnis is also a part of IGM’s crowdfunding program, so backers can get the latest digital issue of the Indie Game Magazinefor free starting at the £49 tier.
