‘Megabits’ Is Looking To Get Kickstarted
After the overwhelming success of the Double Fine Kickstarter back in March of last year, Kickstarter has seen a drastic increase in popularity as a means of securing funding for video games.
MegaBits is one such game, having launched its Kickstarter campaign on January 4th, with an end date of February 3rd.
Now, the first thing that you may notice upon seeing the game is its rather overwhelming resemblance to a particularly famous series of games. MegaBits never makes a particular point of hiding its inspirations, quickly stating that Pokemon is a large influence on the game’s concept, as well as broadcasting the developer’s beliefs that the series has lost its way in recent years.
MegaBits intends to correct this with its own unique brand of gameplay. Combining the capturing, training and battling elements of the Pokemon games with the creature raising aspects of a Tamagotchi, MegaBits is certain to provide an interesting experience. Location-based gameplay also seems to feature strongly in the game, with the game world layered over your real-world position, and other ‘trainers’ in the area visible. It’s certainly an interesting concept; but its success will depend entirely on how popular the game is upon its release.
If MegaBits sounds like your kind of game, you can head over to its Kickstarter pageto support it; as of writing this, MegaBits is 21% funded with 22 days to go. Those of you who are interested can also go to the MegaBits website, which provides more detailed information on the game itself.
