Shift – Hunt or Be Hunted from the Comfort of your Own Town
“Real-life Hunger Games without the drama” is the way that Augmented Games describes their new mobile app/game, Shift .
. It is a unique vision of a way in which gamers can take the thrill of a chase, combine it with modern technology that nearly everyone carries, and explore their environment. Rather than being a simple game of catching another person, however, Shift has a tracking system, a set of rules both in the real world and on a mobile device, and a clear goal.
One player is the escapee – their very simple goal is to not getcaught by the hunter. The hunter’s goal is obviously to the capture the escapee. How this works is that both players download the app onto their phones, log in, and select their role. Their entire real-life surroundings are the playing field. The hunter must get within 30 yards off the escapee to win. The escapee has an intelligence system to help give them a fighting chance, and they can taunt the hunter by sending texts and photos to tease about their location. There is a time limit, and the game ends either when the escapee has been caught, or the clock runs out. Players will be able to join games being held by others in the area with the app, or invite their friends from social media, such as Facebook.
Augmented Games are currently seeking support on IndieGoGoin order to bring Shift out of Beta and onto more devices. The plan is for the game to be free, but first they must complete it. The goal is $30,000, and the current total is $9,225 with 36 days to go (as of this article’s publication). A number of perks, including tee shirts, are available to those that contribute to the campaign.
