takes a fantasy adventure, adds some board game-like elements, and ends up with a visually interesting turn-based RPG adventure. Though the movements and set-up are unusual for a video game, the clear-cut routes and space-counting grid can help the player to visualize their next move along with those of their enemies (similarly to how Crypt of the Necrodancer divides its action spaces). The player’s ultimate goal is to control an epic barbarian named Zantor in his role as protector and defender of the land, facing enemies, collecting useful items, and teaming up with others, as necessary, to defeat the evil sorcerer threatening everything around him.

In the town of Darkwood, a band of the sorcerer’s minions are being turned loose from a dungeon to terrorize citizens, killing and looting as they please. Zantor must explore mazes, hidden areas, and face the Skull of Fate, which determines how and when he will succeed in his tasks. A party of two will join Zantor: The wizard, and Thorin the dwarf. The wizard can help control battles, giving you strength and support when players need it. Thorin’s ability to spot traps is valuable in the treacherous dungeons that lie ahead. Villagers can also aid you by trading gold for weapons and other items, allowing you to grow stronger with every victory.

Dark Quest released on Steamon January 21st, and is available for $4.99. You can also find this ubiquitous app for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Xbox Live, and PlayStation (search via Playstation.mobile) for a variety of prices depending on the platform. If you’d prefer, you can also purchase Dark Quest through Humblefor Windows PC.
