IGM Forum Finds: Caffeine

Let’s clarify the title up front: No, we did not find a supply of coffee in the forums.

Let’s clarify the title up front: No, we did not find a supply of coffee in the forums. We do not have the technology. But rest assured, should it become available it’s definitely something we’ll consider.

Instead, the caffeine found in our forums isa forthcoming science fiction/horror game from DylserX. Inspired by FEAR, Condemned, and Doom 3 , this psychological thriller takes you to outer space and the outer limits of your own imagination.

Caffeine takes place in the year 2097, a time when Earth’s resources are severely waning – due in no small part to massive overpopulation. The most sought-after substance is the eponymous alkaloid, and companies have managed to respond to the endless demand by mining the substance from deep in outer space.

Our hero is a young boy who wakes to find himself on an apparently otherwise-empty space station. The station seems to belong to Rayer Industries, one of the enterprising outfits which has gotten in on the caffeine mining industry. They are the proud producers of “Space Coffee,” a beverage they claim has 100% more caffeine than regular coffee. Space Coffee is, naturally, out of this world. They say so themselves.

But why is a young boy on a caffeine-mining expedition? Where did all the other people go? How is he going to survive on his own, and how will he manage to find a way home? In order to learn these answers and more, you must make your way through the space station in search of clues, notes, audio logs, and other materials with which to piece together the fragmented truth. That is… if the emptiness and silence of the station don’t get to you first.

Visually stunning and deliciously creepy, Caffeine will be available in three distinct flavors – PC, Mac, and Linux. A playable pre-release demowas made available to the public near the end of March. You can also support the game as it charges toward full release by contributing to its Indiegogo fundraising campaign. Follow the game on Facebookand Twitterfor future developments.
