Free Love for All: Robots Need Love Too is Now Available
If you read the September issue of Indie Game Magazine – and I know you did because it’s awesome – you probably saw my preview of a fun little iOS game called Robots Need Love Too .
. Players solve increasingly difficult puzzles to bring together two lovesick robots, despite the disapproval of the narrator and the corporation for which all three robots work. Love and logic go hand in hand.
As of this week, RNLT is now available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch gamers everywhere. It’s a production of Elephant Mouse, a North Carolina publisher and developer of casual and free-to-play mobile games. Elephant’s studio director, Heather Chandler, notes that the company is “proud to create a GLAAD-endorsed game with an inclusive view of love.” RNLT allows players to assign a gender to each of the two robots in the romance, with six options from which to choose, enabling the creation of unique love stories that suit the preferences of each individual player.
“ Robots Need Love Too is a perfect example of where we hope more video games are heading, in that it presents simple customization options that allow every player to have a personalized and engaging playing experience regardless of how they personally identify,” says Matt Kane, GLAAD’s Director of Entertainment Media. He adds that the expansion of video games to new audiences demands that inclusivity become an industry standard.
Through 25 levels of increasing difficulty, players must arrange command squares on the screen in a pattern which allows the robot lovers to meet in the middle of the room. As the game progresses and the story unfolds, they find themselves at odds with obstacles, and also other robots who are actively trying to thwart their happily ever after.
Robots Need Love Too is currently available from the Apple App Storeat no charge, and with no in-app purchases (or as the devs put it, “no expen$ive surprises”). An Android version – no pun intended – of the game is expected for release in the near future. Keep up with the latest in robot romance by following RNLT on Facebook.
