Indie Links Round-Up: Walk In The Park
“Two days before E3 began, Steve Swink and Erin Robinson finalized plans to attend the convention.
Today’s Indie Linksfeature an RPG with a non-confrontational twist, rogue devs showing off their games at PAX and more.
How a couple of indie devs snuck into E3(Joystiq)
“Two days before E3 began, Steve Swink and Erin Robinson finalized plans to attend the convention. They packed their laptops with the latest builds of their games, Scale and Gravity Ghost, threw some clothes in a suitcase, and started the six-hour drive from Phoenix, Arizona to Los Angeles, California. This is a process similar to what thousands of developers go through before showing up at E3, but there was one thing different about Swink and Robinson’s trip. They didn’t have passes.”
Broforce devs talk female heroes, 80s action appeal and cultural sensitivity to games(Polygon)
“Broforce, long before the explosions and shark wrestling, began with director Evan Greenwood’s deep desire to create an action-packed cooperative game.”
UnderTale combines classic RPG gameplay with a pacifist twist(Polygon)
“UnderTale is a traditional role-playing game with one very big exception: Where most developers incorporate violence into gameplay, creator Toby Fox tries to work around it.”
Impressions: Infested Planet Beta(RPS)
“Oh, I do like an RTS where the odds are overwhelmingly in my favour. Which is not to say that I can’t get my scabby little bottom handed to me in Starship Troopersesque killathon Infested Planet, but it is such fun to be in control of five little men who can mow down 5000 little aliens without meeting their own maker.”
Meet The Actor: Gun Monkeys Gets Kevin(RPS)
“Are you Slightly Old? And British? And of broadly good humour? Then you will doubtless be at least passingly familiar with the work of The Actor Kevin Eldon, quiet mainstay of some of this nation’s greatest televisual comedy. As well as Brass Eye, Alan Partridge, Nighty Night, The IT Crowd and more, he can now add Size Five Games’ Gun Monkeys to his CV. Witness a sad lack of weak lemon drink references, but a positive bounty of warm, chummy tones, below.”
TurtleStrike Video Preview: One Shell of a Good Time(Indie Game Insider)
DERP of Duty and Uncraft Me !(Indie Gamer Chick)
“Boob games. They’re all over Xbox. They make more money than most of the top-ranked games on my Leaderboard do. Other XBLIG developers hate them. I’m tolerate of them, and sometimes even award them my Seal of Approval. All I want to do is be entertained, which isn’t as hard as people think. Take the Trailer Park King series. The three main releases (Trailer Park King 1, 2, and 3) all made the Leaderboard. The first spin-off, Cherry Poke Prison, did not. In part, because of burnout on the, ahem, humor, which is exactly what hurt Trailer Park King 3 as well. DERP of Duty is the second spin-off, and now I’m so burned out that I need a fucking skin-graft.”
Preview: The Trench(Independent Games)
“WWI is arguably one of the most brutal (and unnecessary) wars in history. You’d think all the shooter developers would be leaping all over each other trying to get a piece of the WWI FPS pie, but nope, they are leaving that to indie developers.”
