Life Goes On Preview – Sadistic Fun

Infinite Monkeys Entertainment, in Alberta, Canada, seems to be founded on a sick sense of humor. (Which in this case, turns out to be an honest compliment!) With their forthcoming title Life Goes On , they invite the player to sacrifice countless would-be heroes to the cause of victory. Life does indeed go on, but only for a short time… a really, really short time.

The basic premise is fairly straightforward; you must navigate a series of landscapes. Most of these are quite impregnable without help, but you fortunately have a limitless supply of hapless minions who can be slaughtered in creative ways to provide the stepping stones, ladders, and other tools you need to move forward. It’s sadistic, it’s incongruously adorable, and it’s just a lot of twisted fun.

You do have the limitless supply of knights, but each level has a set challenge for the maximum number you need to kill in order to reach your goal, with the prize for doing so taking the form of a golden goblet (the Holy Grail, one would presume) floating in midair.

Making the whole thing even more hilariously cruel, each knight has a name, which appears on a scroll at the bottom of your screen when you summon them. As that knight meets his or her death, punctuated by a tortured groan in a variety of different voices, the name is crossed out and replaced with the next individual in the lineup. Complete the level for a comical remark from the developers, such as “The HR department wants a word with you about your victory.”

Life Goes On can be previewed on Steamand will be available for PC and Mac on April 16th; in the meantime, the devs invite you to try the playable demo found here. Expect a review from IGM in the near future, and watch for updates from the developers on the game’s Twitter.
