has listed its first round of teams as part of its incubation and acceleration program aimed at guiding and providing resources to future indie studios and their projects. The five studios chosen are all working on mobile or tablet concepts and all are out of Canada:
Crankshaft Mobile in Montreal is developing a Rogue -like top-down brawler codenamed ‘ Project Black Russian ‘. Fellow Montreal studio Pixel Crucible will be building a hybrid adventure/management fantasy game that focuses on ‘strategically disposing of heroes’. Lightning Rod Games from Toronto are planning an evil genius style concept that mixes the hectic natures of indie favourites Flight Control and Plants vs. Zombies . Miscellaneum is working on The Firemasters , a 3D side scrolling action game that has you fighting fires on Mars, of all places! And finally there’s Imaginary Games who are hard at work creating a social card game about a mysterious graveyard carnival in the visionary style of Tim Burton. The program will provide funding and development labs to help get the teams across the line. Once the games are complete they then go through the Accelerator process to help upload them all to the appropriate online markets. There’s a number of similar programs popping up around the world, something that’s quickly becoming a new, positive trend within the industry. It’s certainly great to see so much love and support for our talented indies and their wonderful ideas.
A big congrats and good luck to all five studios and be sure to check out Execution Labs’ websiteto keep an eye out for any future updates regarding a second round of the program.
