Marmalade's mobile engine gets Apple TV support
Marmalade, maker of the 2D/3D game engine that powers mobile titles including SimCity and Godus , has added Apple TV support to its platform.
The latest version of the engine, currently available in open beta, will include tvOS specific features such as Apple TV Remote support, Game Center integration, and in-app purchases, to help developers create games for Apple's little black box.
Marmalade hopes the addition of those features, alongside its unique abstraction and middleware components, will also assist developers looking to port games and apps.
"We were able to leverage zero conf networking support to implement local multiplayer and capitalize on the social aspect of big screen games," said Marmalade Game Studio's executive producer, Cristina Mereuta, explaining how her team created a tvOS title earlier this year.
"Also, using a common cross-platform technology across both tvOS and a companion iOS app functioning as a second controller really helped to speed up development."
A version of the Marmalade Platform with beta support for tvOS can be downloaded from the developer area of the Marmalade website.
