LD34 Quick Picks: Wildly Growing, Tokyo Wars, And Chop Chop

#LD34 Quick Picks: Wildly Growing, Tokyo Wars, And Chop Chop
Over the next few weeks I’ll be going through the thousands of games that were submitted during Ludum Dare 34, and selecting some highlights that I felt stood out from the crowd.

Wildly Growing

In Wildly Growing players start out as a very tiny fish who has to feed off of seaweed and avoid being eaten by the larger fish in the sea. By eating enough seaweed the fish can grow to be big enough to eat small fish and from there the player’s fish can keep on growing until they can eat everything in the sea. Wildly Growing ‘s gameplay concept isn’t the most innovative one, but with cool pixelated graphics, fast-paced gameplay, and a catchy soundtrack, it is definitely one of the better Ludum Dare 34 games that I’ve played.

Tokyo Wars

Tokyo Wars is a fun little shooter where players drive around a city and destroy the black cars that are out to destroy them. The entire game is controlled using the mouse, so it’s a great game to boot up if you know you’re going to be on a long, boring phone call for awhile.

There are power-ups scattered around the map that can provide weaponry and repairs for your car, and the player should always be on the lookout for fuel canisters because the longer they drive around the more fuel they use up. Running out of fuel leaves players slow-moving and exposed to attacks.

Chop Chop

Chop Chop is lumberjack meets Guitar Hero . Players must tap the correct sequence of keys in order to stylishly (and explosively) cut down the trees in their way. Take too long to get the sequence right and it is game over. The lumberjack has additional skins that can be unlocked, most noticeably Kylo Ren from Star Wars . Copyright laws be damned.

It’s short, it’s sweet, it’s simple. It’s Chop Chop .
