MontrealX – World War Machine (Tuque Games)

I like big bots and I cannot lie.

I like big bots and I cannot lie. Gundam Bots, Dinobots, even small bots like H.E.R.B.I.E. I love bots of all shapes and sizes. Tired jokes aside, if you like bots as much as I do, then you’re going to want to keep an eye on World War Machine , a new project in development at Tuque Games. It’s a fast-paced action RPG that takes place in a procedural post-apocalyptic world where humans are no longer a factor. (In fact, they’re extinct. In the words of Michelangelo, “Bummer, dudes.”)  As such, players are given a machine with which to combat rival mechanical opposition for both bragging rights and scrap metal.

The folks at Tuque Games confidently describe WWM as “a supremely customizable, highly advanced technological marvel of destruction.” Players will embark on a campaign and collect as many resources as they can to forge new weapons, upgrade their hardware, and hopefully, survive the seemingly endless hordes standing in their way. The game will also test tactical and situational awareness through increasingly difficult combat and a variety of mission types.

While players will have an assortment of powerful weapons at their disposal, proper equipment management is key to survival. Weapons will overheat if not allowed to cool down, and health does not recharge, so it will be up to the player to use evasive maneuvers and defensive abilities to outplay their enemies. They won’t have to go it alone though, as WWM also supports co-op play.

As far as different mission types, they range from the standard “kill everything that moves and reach the objective marker” to the much more graceful “kill everything that moves while protecting this important convoy.” Other game modes are planned as well, but these two were the ones I personally experienced. WWM can be quite challenging, and making it even more difficult is the procedurally generated level layouts and enemy spawns, so pre-meditated tactics won’t often prepare players for what’s around the corner.

Tuque Games plans to release World War Machine sometime in 2015 on PC. Additional details can be found on the WWM website, and you can follow the development team’s progress on this and future projects by checking out their websiteas well. They’re also on Twitterand Facebookif that’s more your style.
