is one of those experiences that manages to disguise learning as fun — not a small feat. Wrapped in classic, hand-painted graphics, the mobile game tests your memory in a unique way.
While it looks like an arcade platformer, that’s only one part. The miner who’s exploring underground needs help to avoid getting lost. A series of symbols will be displayed on the screen, and players have to repeat them perfectly in order to avoid an untimely end. There’s just a few seconds to do it, so memorizing them for longer term really pays off.
Memory Mine uses a variety of gestures to trip players up: Including swiping, tapping, and pinching. The difficulty increases as players progress, spread out over 21 levels. Along the way, there are diamonds to collect for a higher score, and battery bonuses that extend memorization time. There’s also a story with cutscenes: The deeper the miner goes, the closer he is to insanity.
Memory Mine is coming out on December 25th for iOS. The first five levels will be available for free, while paying $1.99 unlocks the rest of the game and its story. Keep an eye on the Montreal-based Kenzora Games’ websitefor their upcoming Christmas release.
