Microsoft reveals $3000 HoloLens Development Edition

Microsoft's HoloLens, a mixed-reality headset that lets wearers interact with and manipulate holograms, has been the talk of the town since it was unveiled earlier this year , and while we aren't any closer to a consumer release, Microsoft has lifted the lid on the dev-focused HoloLens Development Edition.

While it makes sense to let developers get familiar with the device before putting it out on the mass-market, Microsoft will be asking those interested to fork out $3000 per unit when the Development Edition launches in Q1 2016.

Microsoft also showed off the headset's gaming capabilities by demoing Project XRay , an internally developed mixed-reality title that asks players to fend off robots using an arm mounted cannon, not dissimilar to the one sported by Mega Man.

Right now the Development Edition application processis only open to Windows Insiders based in the U.S. or Canada, with Microsoft imposing a device limit of two per application.
