IGM August Issue Sneak Peek – Field of Dream…casts
Wow, the months are really flying!
Wow, the months are really flying! We’re already 5 issues into The Indie Game Magazine relaunch, and the stories just keep getting better! This month, we feature Elysian Shadows , a “Next-Gen” 2D RPG that aims to offer the beloved Dreamcast one last, great RPG that lives up to the legacy. Given that the Sega console is my favorite of all time, bar none, you can bet I’ll be following the development of this one very closely. If you missed last month’sfeature on Galaxy Heist , I would also recommend checking that one out as well. Alright, without further ado, check out this month’s 10-page teaser, along with a snippet of our cover story:

It’s been about 7 years since Elysian Shadows was first dreamt up by Lead Engine and Toolkit Engineer Falco Girgis. Since that time, the game has seen some drastic alterations. “As for the initial concept of Elysian Shadows, it has changed radically over the years, as our development suite matured, and we matured as developers,” TES mentioned. “While the original storyline concept remained largely in-tact, the creative vision for the project itself underwent several major transformations. What had originally begun as a very old school, 16-bit RPG, exclusive to the Sega Dreamcast, started transforming into an entirely new experience altogether.”
“We slowly found ourselves adding things to the game that no other old school RPG could have possibly pulled off back in the day—things like true rigid-body physics, dynamic lighting, highly detailed storyline and animations, and positional audio,” TES continued. “These new additions to the game and the engine really began to transform ES into something new entirely. Something that transcended the realm of a mere old school 16-bit RPG. That’s when the project was rebranded, and we proceeded with our extremely ambitious “Next-Gen” vision for ES.”
