Subaeria Wants to Bring Deadly Robots to Steam

IGM first introduced its readers to the roguelike action-puzzler back in December 2014 .

The official description ofstates that players will “manipulate robots into destroying each other.” That sentence alone is probably enough to interest many gamers – it worked for me, at least.

. A creation of Canadian developer Illogika, Subaeria puts players in the role of an outcast in future society, who is desperate to escape the eponymous underwater city in a world dominated by technology. With only a single personal drone for company and armed only with intellect, players will outwit the robots who are trying to kill them by tricking them into destroying each other instead. In this way, the player can discover the secrets hidden in Subaeria – and, hopefully, find a way out of it.

A single-player adventure, Subaeria offers four different playable characters. Each comes with their own unique background and set of abilities, and the choices made by one will affect the interweaving storylines of all. Players will meet Antonio, the elderly hacker who leads the Subaerian revolution; Arezou, the gentle priestess; Don Dorf, who has ruled the increasingly corrupt city for the past eight years; and Styx, a young woman trying to make ends meet for her disabled father and their family.

The personal drone accompanying the player characters also has unique capabilities, which can be used to influence not only the attacking robots but also the player character. As the adventure unfolds, new skills can be found and added to the drone, with different effects being created through the combination of powers. These powers and effects are the player characters’ best chance of out-manoeuvring the Cleaners, highly antagonistic robots whose purpose is to destroy anyone who dares to defy their assigned role in Subaerian society.

Illogika is excited to announce that Subaeria is nearing completion, and they expect to launch in September 2015. They have brought the game to Steam Greenlight, where they hope that the gaming community will provide enough upvotes to give it a home on the site. Subaeria is being developed exclusively for Windows PC, with full controller support, and will be available in both English and French. Interested gamers are invited to take a look at the Steam page, and also to join the game’s Steam community group.
