Last month, the documentary film GameLoading: Rise of the Indies premiered and became a talking point for many online communities, especially those in the video game development industry.

premiered and became a talking point for many online communities, especially those in the video game development industry. The filmmakers responsible for the project, Lester Francois and Anna Brady, recently announced that the documentary will become available online for interested viewers to download starting April 21.

Francois and Brady brought their professional skills and experience together back in 2012 when they first started shooting GameLoading . Three years later, after filming dozens of interviews with a variety of industry figures from twenty different cities across ten countries, the duo released the film under the StudioBento banner thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign that hauled in over $100,000 in Kickstarter funds. StudioBento specializes in film and video production out of Melbourne, Australia and is managed by Francois who has a background in factual and narrative entertainment.

Representatives of GameLoading explained in a press release that “the film demystifies what goes into making a game, examines the different processes of developers, captures the excitement of industry events like PAX, GDC, the prestigious Independent Games Festival Awards and Train Jam.” A handful of developers were chosen to be the key focus of the documentary while still capturing a wide look at the subculture of indie games: Davey Wreden ( The Stanley Parable ), Rami Ismail ( Vlambeer ), Robin Arnott ( SoundSelf ), Zoe Quinn ( Depression Quest ), and Christine Love ( Analogue: A Hate Story ) are just some of the indie developers that the film will highlight.

Interested buyers also have until April 28 to pre-purchase the film’s “Member’s Bundle” which includes the soundtrack, supplementary ebook, and extra content along with the film, at the discounted rate of $14.99 on the official website.
