Screenshot Weekly – Bombs, Bards, & Bitter Oil

Alien Bomb Squad

In an act of sheer coincidence and not at all painstaking planning or incredible project management, almost one year ago today we featured a game on Screenshot Weekly called Melon Chop . (It was on February 25, 2014.) But today, Integrershift Game Development’s newest game is getting the spotlight. Dubbed Alien Bomb Squad , the game “is about an alien race who discovers the Earth, in the year 2015. They decide that they want what we have, and send over an “ Alien Bomb Squad, ” a squad of aliens that just want to BLOW EVERYTHING UP!” A group of sentient beings that greedily decide they want something that belongs to somebody else, so they just take it by force and destroy anyone who disagrees? How inhumane! Players take control of a member of the Alien Bomb Squad , and can either stay in the ship and blow everything to smithereens or beam down and use a firearm to destroy all Native Americanshumans. Bard’s Gold

According to the dual developers behind Bard’s Gold , Erdem and Jennifer Sen, the game can be described as “a 2d Retro arcade platformer with a small touch of RPG elements, where the player has to find the key hidden within the level and get to the door in order to progress through the game.” When asked to provide a synopsis of the game’s story, they offered the following character monologue: “While I was adventuring, I got my saddle containing the legendary Bard’s Gold stolen by a filthy goblin. It has been my Family Treasure for generations… I had to get it back at all costs! Giving chase to the burglar, I went through a portal that sent me to this strange world… I must escape and return the Bard’s Gold to where it belongs!” The game includes over 30 levels, including 4 secret ones, two difficulty modes, boss fights, and an assortment of weapons and upgrades. Turmoil

It’s crazy how one thing can lead to another. The butterfly effect is a wild and unpredictable beast. I bring this up because Turmoil began as an idea conceived by Gamious co-founder Jos Bouman. One crude (badum tish) Microsoft Paint drawing later, and the team had a game about searching for and extracting oil, then selling it at the right price. As the game continues development, the next steps “include developing the meta-game and campaign mode. This includes a map with multiple parcels where the player takes on AI in bidding on promising plots of land.” The team also noted that they are planning to bring the game to Steam Early Access to invite players in early and offer their thoughts. They specifically mentioned that “any feedback is welcomed!” The Gamious team keeps a blog for Turmoil , so be sure to head over and check it out if you’re interested to hear more about it.
