Kickstart This: The Island of Eternal Struggle Lives Up to Its Name

What do you get when you bring together a disco-loving cyborg, a drunk berserker, a soldier without a face, and a nun with magic powers?

You getan upcoming turn-based RPG from Wimbus Studios. In this 2D comic adventure being crafted for Sony platforms, four unlikely heroes must band together to, somewhat unintentionally, change the fate of their world forever.

The story begins with the faceless Ian, the first person in history to escape from the eponymous island, which is trapped in endless war between good and evil. He washes up on the shores of the Ornery Coast, and joins forces with the other three characters in an effort to avert disaster. Sister Faye is a nun whose congregation was destroyed by a monster; she is elderly and somewhat frail, but nevertheless wise and powerful. Xenon is a unique mercenary cyborg, trying to evade the religious zealots who think he should be dismantled. In addition to his hand-to-hand combat skills, he can concoct useful elixirs with his alchemy, and summon tiny robot allies to help in battle. Bera is the last known member of a human race called Warriors, and she loves two things: Brawling and drinking. In fact, one of her specialties is mixing cocktails which have healing properties.

The four unlikely heroes make up the adventuring party. While questing to save the world, they encounter equally unlikely characters, such as the shifty Craig, who is good at things like hiding bodies, and Johnny the Save Hobo, who is quite literally a wandering save point. The game includes strange enemies such as roller skating bears wielding switchblades. Taking a non-standard approach to RPGs, the characters each have six playable job classes, which can be customized in what’s dubbed the “Soul Slot” system. Players can spec their characters with traditional RPG classes like Berserker and Templar , plus more unusual classes like the Harvester (a healer who uses the souls of defeated enemies for power) or Forecaster (weather predicting skills); and then there are the truly peculiar classes, like Discomancer (how Xenon summons his minions) and Otaku .

The Island of Eternal Struggle will be available exclusively in the PlayStation store for PS3 and PS4. Wimbus Studios has brought the project to Kickstarter, launching a campaign today that is aiming for $28,000 USD.
