Earlier today, Amazon unveiled their new “Indie Games Store” section. This new subdivision of their digital game storefront caters specifically to indie games. Amazon’s new Indie Games Store will host games for both PC and Mac operating systems, as well as browser-based titles.
“If you’re an indie game developer, it’s usually a headache to get your game in front of people, both gamers and reviewers. Amazon recognizes this,” explained Amazon in their announcement. “As part of our commitment to independently developed games, Amazon is launching the Indie Games Store, a new category on Amazon in the Digital Video Games Store, designed specifically to address this problem.”
The announcement goes on to mention a number of promotional activities developers can partake in to help their game succeed on the storefront: there is the Indie Spotlightweekly Q&A feature, ability to participate in bundles, and the Indie Gamer’s Choice where gamers vote on two indie games and the winner is featured in the store.
Currently, a number of promotions are available for gamers to take advantage of, —like 75% off on over 200 indie titles, and a special deal where when any indie title is purchased, the buyer automatically gets three additional games, free. Amazon is also offering a number of indie game bundles, 100% of the earnings go straight to the developers.
