Author H.P. Lovecraft explored the concept of worlds that lie beyond what we can see. Worlds that are filled with equal parts wonder and horror. Developer Cultic Games is bringing players into the fold with their newest game Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones . Players will join the battle against dark forces beyond recognition starting in the ruined town of Arkham in this 2D supernatural RPG. The battle for the world is already lost, players must find salvation or settle a vendetta.

Players create their characters from scratch and are offered a large selection of archetypal backgrounds with different origin stories, skills, traits attributes, and belief systems. The belief system will come into play when their character loses sanity as it determines how they regain this precious resource. The game features an interesting take on magic, players can call upon spells, but they come at a price. When a player casts the black magic of Stygian it will cost them their health, their mind or sanity and sometimes even their very soul. Their allies against the darkness are quite strange themselves, for example, “The Outsider” is a dead World War 1 soldier who is reanimated by the hands of a psychic narcissistic cat named Herbert West.
