One of my biggest complaints about many multiplayer indie games is that only a few of them offer an online multiplayer experience. It’s not something I necessarily consider a negative point, it’s just something that I miss mainly because I can’t always get together with my friends for local co-op. Fortunately, games like CO-OP: Decrypted offer online multiplayer support.
The product of Canadian development studio Pixelz Games, CO-OP: Decrypted is a 2.5D puzzle platformer starring two robots: R3D and BLU3. The pair finds themselves in what looks like a recycling facility, and must escape by uniting their powers; while R3D is capable of absorbing all sources of light, BLU3 can blow anything up using said energy.
Besides the online multiplayer mode, the game also features a single player mode on top of a local co-op version with every level included. Raphael Fortin, CEO of Pixelz Games, admitted that the single player mode was actually a challenge to complete, stating “Now that single player games are more and more popular, the challenge was to make sure it was both, a single player and multiplayer game for everybody to enjoy.”
CO-OP: Decrypted ‘s Beta version is available now on Steam Early Accessfor PC, Mac, and Linux at a price point of $12.99. A PS4 version might be coming soon, but there’s no release date set yet. Those interested can find more information about the game in our magazine’s April 2014 issue. Other details can also be found on the game’s official website.
