Corta Studios leaves players in the dark – for fun
Infinite runner games are fairly straightforward.
Infinite runner games are fairly straightforward. Your avatar runs, and runs, and as the game progresses the running becomes more difficult as the speed increases and obstacles strew the path.
In Photon Rush , the latest production from Spanish developers Corta Studios, there’s an extra difficulty to overcome: the entire game takes place in near-complete blackness. The player’s avatar is a particle moving through what the developers describe as interatomic space. The particle gives off a small amount of light, illuminating its immediate surroundings and showing obstacles just fractions of a second before they collide with the particle. Expending extra light energy can brighten things up temporarily, but quantities of this precious resource are limited.
Energy sources are found throughout the game to restore the light energy supply; the challenge is to make it from once such source to the next without either running out or being tripped up by the obstacles. As the speed increases, the player’s reflexes are tested while their time to contemplate their next move comes at a premium.
Photon Rush is free to play, and downloadable from the developer websitefor Windows or Linux; Android gamers can download it from the Google Play Store, and it can also be found in both the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store. While on the website checking out Photon Rush , curious gamers can also investigate other creations from Corta Studios on the same page.
