A Bird Story Releases November 5th

, developer Freebird Games’ first full game, is inspiring for a lot of reasons. For one, it was made in RPG Maker and received quite a bit of critical acclaim despite this (not that there’s anything wrong with RPG Maker, but it isn’t generally where well-known games come from). For another, it’s just an intoxicating story that the creator tells. Not a studio to rest on their pixelated laurels, Freebird Games has just announced the release date of A Bird Story . A sort-of sequel to To the Moon , A Bird Story tells a short tale about a young boy and the injured bird he rescues. Together they go on surreal, imagination and dream-powered adventures.
A Bird Story is intended to be a self-contained narrative, but it is also going to provide the backstory for the patient of To the Moon ‘s full sequel (the name and release date of which are currently unannounced).
One of the best things about To the Moon (in my eyes, anyway) was its music, composed by Freebird Games’ founder, Ken Gao. He is also composing the music for A Bird Story, and, even better, you can listen to some of it right now on Gao’s Bandcamp page. (For fellow fans of To the Moon, check out the last two items on the list. You’re welcome.)
A Bird Story is slated to release November 5th on Windows, Mac, and Linux, with the plan being to release on multiple distribution platforms — Steam, GOG, etc — so that fans can get it from whichever platform they prefer. No word yet on the price, but seeing as this is planned as a short, one hour game, it’s likely to be fairly inexpensive. You can find out more about the game and development team by visiting their website, and you can also interact with them on Facebookand Twitter.
