Gross Aliens are no Match for Super Cyborg
Artur Games’ Super Cyborg is so powerfully Contra -like, it’s not funny.
-like, it’s not funny. The locations and setpieces seem to have come straight from my favorite run and gun series, but the enemies and their behaviors are brand new creations by the developer. Watching that red robot running around the screen blasting those gross alien monsters had me grinning from ear to ea, excited at the prospect of playing this game, considering a certain company hasn’t released a decent game in the Contra series in some time. If you don’t give me my Contra 5 , someone’s going to fill in that gap.
You know this formula. Aliens have come to Earth looking for trouble, and you’re put in the shoes of the brave cyborg that’s not going to take that kind of crap. You can grab more powerful weapons as they float by through the levels, then use them to beat the dangerous hordes of enemies that are constantly looking to ruin your fun. Fight big enemies and bigger bosses as you make your way through progressively more sickening, organic locations until you’re hitting the creatures where they live.
Actually, the enemy design is one area where Super Cyborg might outdo Contra , as it has a lot of weird, sickening organic monsters lined with teeth and eyeballs in weird places, making me think more of Abadox in those moments. I’d shoot these things just so I wouldn’t have to look at them any more, and possibly to put them out of their misery. Scientists, you need to stop waking up evil alien races, all right?
Super Cyborg has been out on Desura for $4.99for about a month, which I am only finding out about now since I am permanently out of the loop. It contains seven stages and three difficulty levels of alien shooting fun.
