With school no longer in session and Summer turning the northern hemisphere into a sweltering oven, July is a favorite month for gamers to stay in and play. If you have some time on your hands and are eager to find a new world to explore, Fairytale Distillerywould like to have a word with you.
Alex and Sebi, the forces behind the German game studio, have been at work on Das Tal since spring 2013, with Alex having longed to develop his own MMORPG ever since he fell in love with Ultima Online at the close of the 20th century. Das Tal promises to be a “fast-paced sandbox MMORPG that focuses on player interaction.”
According to the game’s About page, “Full Loot and Open PvP create a game of risk vs. reward where you weigh up your options before engaging others. PvP is never restricted but cooperation is always rewarded. Each world is unique in its feature set and geography – and you pick those features!”
Character creation will be completely up to the player; the classless system promises that your character will be just who you tailor him or her to be. Players will craft their own equipment and establish a personal settlement, and must find a way to acquire the components needed to accomplish these goals. From small raids to gigantic sieges, there is plenty of action as you fight for survival.
Now, for the gravy: The Bavarian Games Fund (FFF Bayern) has granted Fairytale Distillery the funding they need for the early development phase. The grant, which is supplemented by “a local angel investor,” gives the developers €100,000 (equivalent to $130,000 US) and thus makes it possible to speed up production on Das Tal . They are now able to bring in additional team members to help with key areas like character animation and sound design. But what this means for the players is nothing less than A lpha testing .
A basic playable build will be available for public testing in just a few weeks, providing gamers their first opportunity to try Das Tal since the initial prototype tests last year. Fairytale Distillery also hopes to submit the game to Steam Greenlight during the month of July, enabling fans to show their support on the Greenlight page. If all goes well, Das Tal will be available on Steam Early Access before very much longer; the concept pageis already up and running.
