‘God Of Blades’ Forges Pulp Inspired Trilogy
Pulp fantasy comes to life in White Whale Game’s upcoming God of Blades .
. Inspired by 1970’s prog rock and the works of Michael Moorcock and Robert E. Howard, the iOS title will spin off into an all-new trilogy of pulp literature. The Austin developer has announced that Django Media will produce a series of enhanced e-books based on the fleshed out lore behind God of Blades to be written by novelist Greg Moller.
The Nameless King summons phantom blades made of doomed history and haunting culture
The depthless mythology imagined by lead game designer George Royer has been featured over the last year as several faux paperback covers. Moller’s trilogy will provide a fully authentic pulp vibe to the game’s epic lore utilizing characters and events straight from Royer’s creations. The first e-book: “The Hand of The Sable King,” will be released alongside God of Blades and will feature an index of video interviews with the game’s creators and also include development footage.
Due to be released at the end of summer for iPhone and iPad, God of Blades is a physics-based sword fighting side-scroller thickly rooted in its literary influences. Another unique feature present in the game allows players to unlock hidden weapons by visiting real world libraries and checking in on foursquare.
It isn’t often that a game pays such a large tribute to its own heritage. Every game draws inspiration from somewhere, but George Royer and the rest of White Whale Games are actively giving back to the pulp fantasy genre with God of Blades .
