‘Retro Racing’ Pulled from App Store on the Verge of Success, Apple is Clueless
Mr.
Mr. Qwak’s rather brilliant racing title for iOS devices, Retro Racing , was removed from the App Store the other day, just as sales were starting to pick up. It’s now back up there after some hassle, but Apple have no idea how or why it happened.
Friday 23rd March 2012 started off as a very good day for mobile game developer, Mr. Qwak. Retro Racing , his latest title, had already hit 44,000 downloads (“I never knew that kind of success before”) and that morning was reviewed in a UK national paper, The Sun, in fact. Consequently it was racing up the charts for the reasons we outlined in our review, so you could say things couldn’t better.
Then, just as suddenly, that success was ripped outby the throat as Mr. Qwak discovered that Retro Racing had vanished from the App Store. The cause of this seemed to be that he had migrated his iOS developer account from a personal to a business account. Mr. Qwak was obviously “gutted” that this had happened and had to accept that the chart position the game had earned was going to be reset if and when the game did make it back to the App Store.
Five and a half days later, Retro Racing returned to the App Store thankfully, but it has dropped way off the charts and has entered obscurity. Understandably, Mr. Qwak is asking for anyone’s help to raise awareness of this issue so it doesn’t happen to anyone else, as it might well do considering Apple do not know what caused it.
“This was such an rare edge-case scenario, that it’s new for [Apple] too. I was pleased to hear that they’re going to investigate this issue further, and see what can be done to refine their process, and prevent this from happening to someone else in the future”, Mr. Qwak wrote in his relieved blog post.
Let’s hope it gets resolved! In the meantime, be careful with your accounts and go and play Retro Racing now that it is back up on the App Store.
More information on Retro Racing can be found on the game’s official website.
