Secret of Qwerty features difficulty levels that are appropriate for novices and experienced typists alike. Any advancement in difficulty can be selected by the player depending on what they are comfortable with, and how much they wish to improve and challenge themselves. The typing element appears only in combat, where players must type out words as they appear above enemies to deal damage. Players can also cast spells and use potions, aiding them on their quest to defeat Qwertz and his four guardians. The game also makes some use of the seldom used number pad, and provides a JRPG flair by rendering the dialogue in authentic “Engrish.”
