Double Happy is Doubly Happy to be Nominated
Their PC game, Double Happy vs.
It’s hard to blame the team at Monkeystackand 2x Cubed for being excited right about now.
is a manic adventure about two “non-rabbits,” Pink and Blue, who were created from magic and cosmic seed. They must fight against the influence of the Infinite Sadness, an entropic force of decay and corruption, by using the only weapon which can possibly save the multiverse – joyful insanity. The game is currently on Steam Greenlight, and the game’s corresponding YouTube channelfeatures a series of webisodes in which Pink and Blue discover the origins of the Infinite Sadness, and how it will affect the multiverse.
As exciting as all of that is, however, it gets even better.
Digital Media World has announced the finalists of the 2014 Australian Effects and Animation Festival (AEAF). In the Game Cinematic category, there are five titles, some of which are very well known – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , for example, as well as Civilization – Brave New World . But there is only one indie game teaser trailer which has earned the formal nomination, and that is the trailer for Double Happy vs. The Infinite Sadness: Pharos .
“The adventures these ‘non-rabbits’ go on are quite insane,” said Justin Wight, Double Happy co-creator and Director of 2xCubed. “That said, they contain so many themes which run parallel with our own world. The webisodes are letting us further explore the dynamics of the Double Happy Universe as well as giving us an idea of how players might feel about the story behind Pharos .”
The AEAF Awards, which are now in their 18th year, is an international competition and screening which accepts entries from around the world. Entries are judged for technical skill, artistry, and quality of visual effects and animation, and their contribution to storytelling, among other criteria. The awards are given to films, commercials, video games, and various other media for their creative and technical excellence. Previous winners in the Game Cinematic category have included Epic Mickey Outro (2013) and Civilization 5: Gods and Kings (2012), so Double Happy is in some very impressive company just to have been nominated.
We at IGM wish the creators of Double Happy the best of luck, as they wait to learn the winner’s name. In the meantime, be sure to take a look at the trailer, and the webisodes of Pink and Blue’s adventures, and try to keep up with their happy madness on Facebookand Twitter.
