ECO – A World With Finite Resources And Fragile Ecosystem
The indie developers at Strange Loop Games are working hard to bring gamers everywhere an online world; a global survival game, called ECO .
. The world is set in a wilderness with an ecosystem that makes every attempt to thrive as it follows the natural course of animal life and death, and can be directly or indirectly affected by the actions that players take.
ECO has several unique features, each devoted towards educating players in wilderness survival, cause-and-effect, and working with others to propose and vote on laws in order to compensate for adverse effects on the environment. The game begins with players living in an untamed world, with the threat of a world-destroying event looming several real-time weeks away.
The only way to survive is to progress as a civilization and increase the level of technology until the crisis can be averted. At the same time, players need to balance the progress of their species against the dangers of taking too much from the ecosystem and its limited resources, or face permanent destruction resulting in server-wide perma-death that can only be blamed on the actions of the players themselves.
ECO is a truly unique game with several educational benefits that can be easily taught to classes and other organizations. The game has even received 2 years funding from the Department of Education, showing just how much potential seen with the project. The team expects to start a Kickstarter campaign in the coming months to jump-start the game just before releasing an early access version. For more information, gamers are encouraged to follow the team on Twitteror like them on Facebook. They also have a Steam Greenlightpage.
