Ever Yours, Vincent: A Glimpse into the Mind of a Tragically Renowned Artist
Games are art.
Games are art. Period. Most of us who understand the medium and community can go without stating that obvious fact. But needless to say, it shouldn’t go unsaid that it’s still a difficult concept for many to grasp. Ever Yours, Vincent is no exception to the idea – it’s a point-and-click adventure game where you embody the tragically renowned (only in his after life) artist, Vincent Van Gogh.
Van Gogh reads from the letters sent to his brother Theo, after returning from the asylum where he spent time recovering from mental illness. You explore his apartment, finding more letters along the way. The player can maneuver and interact with Vincent’s paintings, giving a personable insight to his own works, as though seeing Van Gogh himself observe his own work.
Music composed by Greg Nicolett has appropriate French sensibilities, with accordion melodies and soft piano. But the tracks are also quite melancholy, as you explore paintings like At Eternity’s Gate.
Designer/writer/artist/animator, Federica Orlati, demonstrates herself as an artist of the craft, creating the entire environment out clay, cardboard, paper, etc.. Her blogdates months back in the making, detailing her process and development of design from concept to animation.
The game states it’s for educational purposes only, and can be downloaded for free here. You can learn more information about artist/designer, Federica Orlati, by following her on Twitter.
