Screenshot Weekly – Blind, Kung Fu Princesses in for a Rude Awakening

Welcome back to Screenshot Weekly !

! Every Tuesday, IGM brings you exclusive looks at upcoming games in various stages of development. The featured image introducing each game will always be original, and made especially for IGM, so you’ll see them for the first time right here! Without further ado, let’s take a look at this week’s screenshots:

Blind World

We always feature exclusive screenshots seen for the very first time right here on Screenshot Weekly . But we’ve never showcased an exclusive gameplay trailer. Until now, that is! Blind World doesn’t have a heck of a lot going on in the narrative department, so the solo developer known as @Chinafreakon Twitter decided it would be better to highlight the gameplay features by providing a first-look at the game in action. Described as an “action’n’run platformer” in a similar style to Super Meat Boy , Blind World mixes things up by creating a world that is entirely black. That is to say, it’s completely dark, so players are unable to see anything without using sound. Luckily, players can move around to create sound, which sends out a radar-like ping that allows them to steal a quick glance of their surroundings. (It’s sort of like being Marvel’s Daredevil.) Currently, the only options available to the player are to move and jump; but I’m told wall-sliding and wall-jumping are in the works.

Shuyan the Kung Fu Princess

Shuyan the Kung Fu Princessis “an episodic action-adventure game set in a world inspired by Ancient Chinese history and legend.” The Toronto-based studio Mark Media explained that “the branching narrative follows Shuyan on her quest to master the art of Kung Fu and attempt to save her kingdom from invasion.” That ‘branching narrative’ part means the story will change based on the player’s choices throughout 3 episodes. The mobile game utilizes tap & swipe gameplay, with the camera switching from top-down to a zoomed “Focus Mode” when chaining combos, and features hand-drawn art by Chinese comic book artist Daxiong. Shuyan actually uses motion-captured performances of Kung Fu masters, and has an accompanying 3D animated TV series in development. More information about the game can be found on the official Twitter account, and Facebook users can check out the game’s Pagethere as well. Here’s an obligatory Kung Fu Fightingvideo.

Thea: The Awakening

Lots of info here, so let’s dive straight in: MuHa Gamesmentioned that “ Thea: The Awakening is a turn-based strategic survival game inspired by Slavic mythology and folklore, and set in the dark, post-apocalyptic fantasy world of Thea.” The team includes Witcher alumni, and intends to release the game later this year.is set apart in its intention to merge familiar Western Fantasy with lesser known Eastern European fantasy. The game “provides a bridge between different fantasy tropes and gaming conventions.” Players will enter a world where they encounter “distinct, Slavic creatures, like a devious Baba Yaga or a bloodthirsty Striga, but even the better known Elves and Dwarves are altered by their life on the Eastern side of the world.” The goal of the projectis to bridge two worlds together, “both in terms of gaming genres – strategy and survival – as well as the setting of Thea that bridges the Western and Eastern European Fantasy genre in one amazing world!”
