Papercade, a New Crafting-Sharing Game, Releases Today
A new method for creating and sharing games recently came out, and it doesn’t require an ounce of coding.
Papercade invites friends and family to get together and create little mini games that resemble paperboard cut-outs, and share them with the world.
Papercade is designed for the iPad. Using the tablet, a user can take a face picture to cut out and then place it onto a character in the game’s created worlds. Those are generally short “storyagames” which can have text and some interactive elements. The social aspect of Papercade involves sharing creations in a marketplace where everyone rates and downloads other people’s inventions.
“In designing Papercade , we challenged ourselves to develop a mobile game that brings together the hands-on and nostalgic elements of today’s maker movements with the world’s insatiable appetite for taking and sharing photos,” said Mike Wozniewski, chief technology officer at Hololabs.
The creators were inspired by miniature worlds built in shoeboxes, they said.
Papercade debuted today at the IndieCade festival, headlining as an Official Digital Selection. The game is available now as a free download on iTunesfor the iPad.
