Shape and Defend Your Domain in Kingdom
Developers Noio and Licorice have officially released their new minimalist strategy game Kingdom .
. Inhabiting the role of a king or queen, players will have the choice to provide peasants with gold – turning them into royal subjects – or go out to explore unknown terrain in an effort to strengthen their kingdoms.
Random encounters shape the story, providing clues for the most effective way to maintain the kingdom. Peasants who are loyal can help to build fortifications, which are necessary for survival. Players must strategize carefully, because when the sun goes down, hordes of malevolent creatures will come searching for gold and the crown. If the fortifications fail, and the gold runs out, the procedurally-generated kingdom is lost.
Noio and Licorice, based in the Netherlands and Iceland respectively, brought Kingdom to life through a previous project from 2013. The title began as a Flash game developed by Noio’s Thomas van den Berg. Marco Bancale of Licorice played several hours of the game before eventually deciding to contact the developer with the idea to broaden and port the title while maintaining the core gameplay.
Kingdom is now available for purchase through Steam, GOG, and the Humble Storefor $9.99 on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The game’s original soundtrack is also available for $3.99, with a bundle discount available through Steam.
