Screenshot Weekly – Silly Manatee, Soccer is for Airplanes
Welcome back to Screenshot Weekly !
! Every Tuesday, IGM brings you exclusive looks at upcoming games in various stages of development. The featured image introducing each game will always be original, and made especially for IGM, so you’ll see them for the first time right here (make sure to click the pics to see them in their full screen glory)! Without further ado, let’s take a look at this week’s screenshots:
Ganbare! Super Strikers
I never understood why we call soccer, well, soccer in America. It’s especially perplexing because we typically make fun of the kicker in football, saying he has the least important job, and yet according to the name we gave the sport, he seems to be the only guy playing the right way. Anyway, Ganbare! is a tactical, turn-based RPG soccer game. Solo developer Rese tells me his inspirations for the game stem from “the SPOKON genre (Japanese Sports Comics) in general, and Captain Tsubasa in particular, where you control a team on its way to the World Cup.” It features both a Story Mode and a Multiplayer Mode; the former will take players through a series of matches, inevitably forcing opposing teams to join yours as you build up to face off against bigger challenges, while multiplayer will allow players to face off against live opponents in quick matches, tournaments, or entire leagues. Rese is targeting an early 2015 demo for PC and Mac, and hopes to later bring the game to iOS and Android. More info can be found on the Greenlightpage, Twitter, and the official website.
InnerSpace
InnerSpace is a unique concept, so I think it’s best to let the folks at PolyKnight Games describe the general synopsis: “ InnerSpace is an exploration flying game being developed for PC, Mac, and Linux. The game is set within an inverted planet, surrounded by water. Within this sphere, which we’re calling a bubble, physics are inverted, so gravity falls away from the center. This causes the center (where the ground would typically be) to be hollow, and the ground to follow the circumference (where there would normally be sky). The majority of gameplay involves exploring multiple bubbles, collecting relics that explain more about the universe, and encountering each of the bubbles’ patron deities. The game flow is heavily inspired by titles like Proteus and Shadow of the Colossus .” Players explore using a plane that can dive and submerge into water, and also comes equipped with machine guns that go nicely with the destructible environments. The game is nearly funded on Kickstarter, but could still use some support. Additional details can be found on the dev’s website.
Super Manatee!
A lot of exclamation points this week. I guess everyone is REALLY excited about their games in development. Super Manatee! is a reboot of – you’ll never guess – a game called Manatee . If you didn’t play the original iOS incarnation, the rules are rather similar: Players assume the role of a manatee and are tasked with surviving the four seasons. They do so by eating all the kelp they can find and avoiding the hazards such as bombs scattered across the stages. There’s even some super kelp lying around which will give the manatee limited super powers, although no further details were given. Super Manatee! will contain 80 levels, and there is a three star system for high scores, so the better you play, the more stars you’ll earn. Those that earn every golden sea star can then unlock an Arcade mode. Much like its predecessor, Super Manatee! will be headed to iOS devices. There’s just a bit more information that can be gleaned about the developers, Hen Soup Studios, on their website.
That’s it for this week’s Screenshot Weekly . Be sure to come back next week to see more exclusive looks of the latest indie games in development!
