Contre Jour Review

Contre Jour, the perfect combination of World Of Goo and Cut the Rope, is probably one of the best games I have ever played.

Contre Jour, the perfect combination of World Of Goo and Cut the Rope, is probably one of the best games I have ever played. Something to say before I start this review is that I couldn’t find any bad points for this game. It takes the major points of two individual games and miraculously combines them. The menu interface is something that really resembles World Of Goo. You can scroll through the 4 available worlds (each to be unlocked by gaining enough dots), and with each featuring a different theme. Each world contains 20 levels, and there are 3 dots to be obtained from each one. There isn’t much of a problem of unlocking new worlds because if you play through all 20 levels, you should easily be able to get to the next world. Oh, by the way, Contre Jour means “against the light” in French.

I admit the interface of the app isn’t anything special but it has some kind of magical touch to it. Wait, that’s the music! The music is quite amazing in this game. While it’s a small repeating loop of sound, it’s extremely addicting and you can’t get tired of it. How should I describe it, you ask? A midnight stroll through Paris. Even though I haven’t been to Paris, it just feels right. The song is a light-hearted piano classic makes all the difference in the mood. Somewhat like riding a bike with you lover during the night, but with the bike is soaring 500 feet in the air.

The levels are addicting. If you’ve played Cut the Rope, it’s quite similar. You can attach stretchy Goo onto your one eye’d organism or perhaps put it into a cannon. The biggest difference from Cut the Rope in gameplay, is your ability to shape the land. You can stretch and retract land, make it bumpy, hilly, or smooth. That reminds me slightly of Bumpy Road, but it’s not a big enough resemblance. Like all games, there are hindrances to  prevent you to continue. For example, who doesn’t like monsters that eat your cyclops puppy?

The themes are really appealing to players of all kinds. Every world introduces a new color theme. Like White&Black to Cyan&Black. It really makes a difference. With every world, included, are new ways to get those glowing blue balls. Like Cut the Rope, there are sliding “ropes”. Some “ropes” can stretch, while some cannot.  There should also be new worlds to be updated into the game because the developers claim to have them coming. Overall, this game is one of the best I’ve played.  No doubt that most will love the game as well.
