Catch Up, Calu! Kickstarter Hopes to Bring Motion-Sensor Action to Mobile Platforms

An adorable game with an ingenious play method, Catch Up, Calu!

relies on the motion of a player’s hand to direct a spaceship through a series of environments, gathering power-ups and destroying obstacles. Rather than a camera, this game uses a Leap Motioncontroller for Mac and PC. The Kickstarter campaign, which launched on April 17, hopes to bring the game to Android and iOS products.

The game follows Calu, an alien who’s late for work — and “work” happens to be the invasion of Earth! The player must direct him through caves, across fields, around corners, and across treacherous paths to help him get to his armada. The speed increases the longer you play, adding difficulty to this endless-gunner.

The titular alien, Calu!

Tony Stutz, the developer of this game, was an early developer on the team that created the Leap Motion, and decided to build Catch Up, Calu! as a result. Along with Big John Games, Stutzwerkshas been developing Calu for two years.

Interesting design mechanics like this help to fuel innovation in gaming, and can lead the way to more inclusive gaming experiences. Visit the Kickstarter(which closes on May 8) to find out more information about the project. The $20,000 goal has been set to help with mobile implementation of the Leap Motion, as well as the port integration of the game itself to mobile platforms. Higher goals have been set for developing new weapons, social media integration, and even a port to Nintendo DS.
